Connecting a Printer Through IE

I recently had trouble setting up a network printer on a Windows 2000 Professional PC. The network print server was running Win2K Advanced Server, with the Microsoft IIS service enabled. When I entered the Web address http://server_name/printers in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), I received the message Gateway and DNS error.

I checked my proxy setting, and the proxy server correctly pointed to my ISP-given proxy address. Then, I checked the system IP configuration, pinged my network print server, and ran the Nslookup command-line utility to test the DNS setup. All my tests were successful.

To resolve the problem, I selected Internet Options from IE's Tools menu, selected the Connections tab, and clicked LAN Settings. Then, I selected the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.
